Welcome to the Winter edition of the Target Technology Incubator Newsletter!
We want to make you aware of the many workshops, seminars and programs we are offering in the coming months at the Target Technology Center in Orono and at the Foster Student Innovation Center located on the campus of the University of Maine. These are intended to provide information, resources and inspiration to new and emerging entrepreneurs. These programs are open to anyone who might have an interest in innovation, entrepreneurship and small business development. Our intent is to provide you with a wide range of topics of interest for you. I urge you to take advantage of these opportunities.

Mainely Sensors, LLC has been awarded a $100,000 National Science Foundation SBIR Phase I grant for a project titled, "Non-Invasive Lobster Vitality Sensor". Jason Bolton, as a Research Engineer, is the Prinicipal Investigator for the project. Mainely Sensors is collaborating with The Lobster Institute, the University of Maine School of Marine Sciences Aquaculture Research Center (ARC) and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Maine Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory (MAAHL) on the project. Our Series "7" Seminars are intended to teach students and small business owners everything from marketing and branding to QuickBooks and team building in order to help them start a business or develop an exisiting business!
Branding and Marketing Your Business
Knowing how to market your business well can mean the difference between success and failure. But knowing how to market effectively can be challenging. Join us as we talk about how you can get the right message out about your business - to lead your business to growth and success! We'll talk about identifying your customers and how to attract and keep customers coming to your business. We'll also discuss ways you can market successfully regardless of your budget!
Show Me the Money If you are seeking financing for your business start-up or expansion - you should attend this seminar! We'll discuss the various financing programs available and offer tips and advice to improve the chances of getting the financing you need!
Legal Protection for Your Business Are you wondering if you should incorporate your business? How to protect an invention? Concerned about protecting yourself when hiring or terminating employees? Then don't miss this seminar. Legal experts will be in attendance to answer your questions and offer their advice and suggestions for the best ways to protect yourself and your business!
What Investors Look For If you are seeking an outside investor for your business - attend this seminar to learn what they are looking for and the kinds of businesses they invest in. We'll talk about how to find and approach investors, what is most important to an investor and what are the common terms and conditions investors look for when negotiating a deal.
QuickBooks for Business Attend this seminar to learn more about the QuickBooks accounting software program and how it can work for your business. Our QuickBooks expert will take you through the basics of the program and offer tips and training to help you make the best use of the program for your business.
Team Building The most successful businesses are those with the strongest teams. We'll discuss who the members of your business team might be. How to find the best team members and how to keep them motivated and excited to be part of your business team. We'll also offer tips for hiring, inspiring and when necessary - firing a team member.
Protecting Your Business We'll discuss how and why you should have a disaster preparedness plan in place for your business and what that plan should include. This plan is critical to your recovery should your business be interrupted for a short or extended period of time due to an unforeseen emergency. We'll also learn about insurance options for your business so you can be sure you are protected in the event of a loss.

Target Technology Center
The Target Technology Incubator was developed by the Bangor Target Area Development Corporation in partnership with the University of Maine. The facility provides a superior environment for information technology development and commercialization activities. This center is one of seven centers in Maine designed to assist firms engaged in technology related activities. Currently there are thirteen businesses residing at Target.
