Maine's Applied Technology Development Centers The Applied Technology Development Center System supports Maine's 2002 Economic Development Strategy, which calls for the development of business clusters in seven targeted technology-based sectors. There is a center dedicated to each of these targeted emerging industries: environmental technology, biotechnology, information technologies, aquaculture and marine sciences, forestry and agricultural technologies, precision manufacturing and composite materials. Every Center has a collaborative relationship with the business community in it's region and across the state, and with the relevant professional and technical associations. In addition, all have a demonstrated relationship with an accredited post-secondary academic institution in the state. Each Center is designed to complement Maine's investments in research and development by providing supportive environments to incubate new technology intensive businesses. As Maine takes charge of its future in the knowledge based technology sectors, the state's research and development investments will enhance the number of quality jobs and well-supported entrepreneurial ventures.
